Cat On My Lap

A cat sat on my lap and I couldn't get up Although I had to pee And my knees were achy As a cat relaxes, she gets heavier and her bones melt away In her sleep she twitches Time was passing and I had an itch It was getting dark and I was late But still I had to wait And she ran and ran through her dreams Chasing small creatures above and below Breathing faster in her sleep I guess I can sit a while longer When she stretches I will not linger I will move at last but my foot is numb Then a door slams and she leaps Scratching my thighs without care Off she goes to the food bowl Why didn't I at first gently remove her Now I think about punting her over The fence though it passes How can I stay mad at those deep blue eyes Those white paws and fur like silk Her wild and clever ways Until the next time when my lap is her bed And she runs and runs again Through all of her many lives and too few days

"...many lives and too few days." It puts me in mind of a looming, threatening ceiling. Very "Citizen Kane"-y of you, there. So where's the Rose, bud? Well written piece, if not a Tad "too" de-pressing. You should "Put some levity back into this life...", believe me, it's just a pinch,"...there'll be no more, AHHHHHH!". Anywho, salut.
