For my dearly departed friend Carolyn Devonshie; written before her July 14 birthday in an effort to try to cheer her up. It was also used in a contest of Emile Pinet's using his form: 3 -6 -9 but got a win instead in one of Brian Strand's contests. I have now changed some of the lines to reflect the fact that she has passed away.
When I wrote this, Carolyn knew she was close to death but did not want her cancer to be written about, so I chose to do a more upbeat poem for her based on a bio she had written on herself, which I think really showcases the woman she was, daring and beautiful till the end. Rest in peace, Carolyn.
Here is the link to her Bio poem which I found to be very clever:

Carolyn
ocean breeze -
scent of brine!
Along Florida’s shores
she happily rambled
to spots where sunshine pours.
Fisher and swimmer, she
dove and sailed many times
in waters deep as sea.
Done in childhood: hopping and leaping,
jumping off things and pogo-sticking.
Daring skills on her God was heaping.
A lover of reading, writing, arts, and
football, hockey; even cheerleading.
As team debate captain, she was grand!
“Fearless or foolish?” her bio asks.
It matters not – she lived life fully.
In heaven's light, dear Carolyn now basks.
