Caring for You

A terrible intruder came one day
When an illness took part of you away

The part of you that is gone
I fear will never return

You are not who I knew
Yet you are still you

I watch you as you are
But I still see you as you were

I am astonished at your courage
Amazed at your efforts to improve

Cherishing the life we have together
Learning to care for who you are now

Even though you are not the same
With you I will still remain
