This is an ode about Colombia. It is the only country in its continent with coastlines on both the pacific ocean and the Caribbean sea (lines 1 & 2). It is a mega diverse country- highest amount of species by area in the world, most endemic species of butterflies, most orchid species, most amphibian species and more species of birds than all of Europe + North America combined (lines 3 & 5). The dry law during major events such as world cup matches and elections; serves to prohibit alcohol consumption in order to stern public violence (line 6). It is the world’s leading source of Emeralds (line 7). Medellin is a city which was a onetime murder capital of the world but has undergone renaissance to be the country’s main cultural hub (line 8). Its people are so pre-occupied with curves that even store mannequins have enormous breasts and women are obsessed with cosmetic surgery (lines 9 & 10). Street hawking of hard core porn is popular (line 11) and its name is derived from Christopher Columbus (line 13).
