Cardinal

scarlet beauty peers through my window each morning her spirit returns.

Where I live in New England the cardinal is a ubiquitous sight especially when his shocking red plumage is set against a backdrop of snow! Question: To whom does "her" spirit refer? If the cardinal, may I point out that only the male is bright red, the female on the drab side. Thanks for the post. / Maurice

I don't think spirit has a gender, my friend, so my departed wife comes to visit whenever she chooses in whatever form works for her. I expected her to show as a butterfly, forgetting how much she enjoyed cardinals. Enjoyed your thoughts.

I would encourage you to look up a picture of the bird...both male and female. The male is exceptionally beautiful. Thanks for reading.
