Canoe Trip
A cool wind creeps
Across a stagnant Day
Stirring the persistent heat
And pestering bugs away
Our feet rest chilly
Along the river's bank
Resting on this sandy shoal
Our canoes have found a place
We eat and drink, and the kids find things
laughing loudly with older friends
While no one notices troubles
Disappearing 'round the bend
Just for a few hours, anyway
They'll be waiting for us I'm sure
But now, in this moment
This sandbar holds the cure
Even though it's stifling hot
And the storms are rolling in
It's perfect just to be here
And a perfect day for friends
