Can We Try

Flies sip at salty tears of babes at empty breasts,
pop bellies sit and watch the bones of motherhood
waste before there beseeching souls. Where is God
they ask, and I must echo, suffer little children
surely this is not meant to be. And with what
compassion does the church ban contraception as
a nation is eaten by AIDS. When will the church
realise that it is the Lord we all answer to and not
an organisation engulfed in old laws that seem so
cruel. Yes there are values and beliefs that are
important and the fact that God lives in the most
of peoples hearts, these values shall live forever.
We can all work together, bring food to the table
and faith to the soul, but let it be balanced and
co ordinated with compassion and belief. This is
something that all faiths must share based on love,
faith and trust.

This heartfelt poem evokes images of the battles against hunger and disease in many third-world nations, Daniel. And I like the way you express hope through joining forces to combat these problems. Very moving poem, my friend! Love, carolyn
