Can We Forget

Can we forget sorrows that weigh us down
Our minds stuck on hurt profound
Thoughts pale to insignificant bits
If only we could just cut and paste what fits

Can we forget the cuts that bleed
Can we fill those gaping scars
Daydreams that turn to nightmares
And threaten all those waking hours

Can we forget tears that flow
Of joyless hearts that struggle to beat
And eyes that once had a dream
Now lifeless, stumbling, dragging feet

A life that lost the sunlight, of a rising sun
Behind a cloud that came into the way
Of hope that hand stopped knocking on doors
Embracing despair that never seems to go away!
