Notes About The Poem

7/27/2025 for SENSE OF TASTE Poetry Contest sponsored by Nette Onclaud

By the Streetlamp

Our promenade - a streetlamp
shines on cream fog memories,
conjuring crusty croissants,
piquant parmesan pasta,
as tiramisu tarts tease,
sweetly taunting my tongue and
shining cream fog memories
on coffee, black and bitter.

Oh I see you did actual food as well. I love the ones you brought up as memories. Congrats on your win

Thanks, Andrea! Always like to think about, write about, and eat food - lol!

David, the sensory impressions associated with food and memory, as well as nostalgia, are central to this wonderful poem. It arouses nostalgia for bygone eras, especially those connected to tastes and textures that are now only memories.

Thanks, Sotto. I'm in love with tastes, and also it seems like some of my best memories with people involve eating.
