Butterfly Shadows
Butterfly Shadows
They stopped me
in my tracks as
I walked out the door
ready to work in
the garden out back
the sun blazing overhead
and a fragrant late spring
breeze blowing gently
from south to north
apple blossoms painted
white with a pink tinge
filled the tree out front
but what grabbed me
were the shadows of
two butterflies dancing
on the walkway just
in front of my door
one larger than the other
though obviously together
I stood motionless the sun
warming my face and
the shadows mesmerizing me
their dance choreographed
by the breeze and some
magical butterfly radar
had me so enthralled that
I never looked up to
see them live and in color…
