Flutter by, butterfly, sailing on the breeze,
you can see eternity, as you float above the trees
Butterfly, high above, as the zephyr sings,
how I love the flicker of your gossamer silk wings
Captured in the cage of my cocoon - not the life I had planned,
tied by ropes of choices I have made, who will unbind my hand?
Floating by, butterfly, on a sky blue sea,
catch the wind with wingéd sails that set your spirit free
Butterfly, rising high, far beyond my reach.
Is the span between our souls one I could ever breach?
Captured in the prison of this life - trapped forever it seems,
will I ever be the butterfly soaring high in my dreams?
Flutter by, butterfly, floating on the breeze,
do you see my liberty, can you set my soul at ease?
Just as I bid goodbye to this lonely land,
You turn unexpectedly and alight upon my hand,
Butterfly.
