Butcher's Dream Necktie

What is a necktie dangling for?
too stiff, too thin to be a scarf,
        a bibi or apron;

too smooth to be a good hankie,
too short to be a suicide noose
       to contemplate on.

Psychologists say: It's boyscouts
   knot-tying habit or hangup
        or status symbol.

But to plain folks doing laundry,
    it's just a collar-tightener,
      that's pure and simple.

 Designers say it's a grooming
enhancer that's used to express
       a fashion statement.

   To butchers it's an appendix
for which they all sincerely have
         no kind sentiment.

Although unschooled in sartorial
  elegance, viewing the necktie
      as just a dangling thing,

a butcher like me still longs for
a rare chance to wear one someday
        like a boardroom king!
