Bushkill Falls is located in Pennsylvania, ever since I was in my early teens I've been going back to this place of beauty. When I was 15 years old I went on my first camping trip there with three of my friends. We actually met some girls our own age there, which was incredible, especially because we were miles deep into the woods. I carved my initials and the girl who I kissed in a tree. 40 years later I went back there and the tree with our initials was still standing. I wrote a poem about it called "Marlene" My favorite place in the whole world.

My favorite get-away throughout my life Deep in the forest is a raging river With my fishing pole, some hooks, and pocket knife I catch rainbow trout and fill up my quiver All alone, no children, not even my wife My lovely secret hide out, none knew whither Eight miles of long and winding paths I travel To this place where I let my thoughts unravel

Charlie, in fairness, I had to rank your otherwise lovely poem lower because howmanysyllables.com (and my own reading count as well) indicate there are 10 syllables in lines two and six. It was very difficult for me to judge this contest because contestants wrote so many incredibly beautiful poems. It's my hope that all of them will regard their entries as wonderful "stand-alone" poems. Congratulations on your win! Best wishes, Carolyn

I was compelled to google a picture of this delightful description, Charles and can well believe how beautiful it must be in reality. How amazing too to see the carving after so long. I wonder whether she will ever read your tribute! I couldn't find it on the list unfortunately. A great contest entry and 'stand-alone' poem as Carolyn suggested. Best wishes Wendy
