Burns Night

Each year, an evening bright as any star, in song and verse retells the tale once more, with homage paid to one man’s repertoire. Humbling and uplifting, his thoughts restore our universal oneness, humankind across the globe, each with each entwined. Our frailties, joys and sorrows understood, with love and pathos are his lines imbued. Hands joined in celebrating brotherhood and in our hearts enduring gratitude for what this plain and humble man has shown, revealing what our souls have always known. And so, each year, we contemplate anew this gifted ploughman and his words so wise, partake of haggis and a dram or two, yet mindful of the wider world outside. To gain the peace for which the whole world yearns feed deep upon the words of Robert Burns.

A wonderful tribute to Robert Burns! I haven't read his poems. Your description makes me want to read him. Any poet who celebrates universal brotherhood is worthy to be admired ! Great penning dear poet friend Peter.

Very many thanks for your kind comments . Many of Burns’ poems are in auld Scots which means you may need a translator to hand. Worth a look though.

Hi Peter..just noticed your "Meadowsweet" has disappeared. Great cadence and rhyme with this poem - I particularly like the final stanza. Great read. By the way, I'll stick to a wee dram over the haggis. :) Cheers - Gary

Hi Gary I decided Meadowsweet wasn’t really up to the mark and needs refining. It may reappear in due course with different wording etc Glad you like Burns Night. It’s coming up fast - on 25th Jan. Our haggis is ready and waiting, plus a nice bottle of whisky which I’m sure would have met with Rabbie’s approval. Thanks for your comment Best wishes, Peter

Thanks for this Mike. Robert Burns is particularly well known across the world as the author of Auld Lang Syne, but he was a prolific poet and songwriter. I’m delighted to see you have looked further into this remarkable man’s story. Many thanks for your comment.
