Burnout

Burn out

keep the pedals turning
Within the cogs inside your mind
Staying late to get it done
With solutions that you find

Skipping lunch time after time
The weights drops from your thighs
Taking lows throughout the day
Forgoing all the highs

Deadlines falling on your lap
Increasingly unmet
As pressure stored inside your head
Follows you to bed

Zombie like you carry on
While functions die like flowers
No nutrients to find respite
As you wake from early hours

Those friends you have they tell you now
You should have seen it coming
Dripping like a faulty tap
From the lifestyle you are a running

What is the point you ask yourself
Brain body link is failing
Every organ under strain
Slowly feel it ailing

Mind's a fog, mistakes the norm
Your voice inside is saying
You've done it wrong, you're such fool
You're patience starts a fraying

But still you're blind to all the signs
Your hamster wheel keep turning
One day you'll wake, jump off the wheel
Before your feet start burning...

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

Hi Skat, thank you for your lovely welcome note, I shall enjoy reading your poetry and thank you too for following mine. I have only been writing for about 3 years and so far have only written rhyming poetry but I'm trying to get into writing free verse. I've had some published in the local press which is encouraging. I am sure by reading others poetry I will gain further experience too. Thank you for your interest too. Many thanks Jan
