Burning Stars

In silence, I sit in moonlight and cry
feeling the cold of the night with my tears
I watch stars dim as they burn in the sky
alone in the dark, I embrace my fears
a silhouette on the edge of my mind
reveals the abyss of hurt and deceit
they hang like shadows there to remind
beneath the sky where pain and anguish meet
collecting stars as they fall from my eyes
turning to ash in palms of cupped hands
released to the world that never replies
seeking the answers innocence demands
wanting tomorrow to come before dawn
and needing ashes from burning stars gone

The metaphor of stars for tears of grief writes large for the tears that usually get wiped away, but now shine for lost love.

beautifully constructed and powerful Sonnet...such a compelling read. I especially liked these lines: seeking the answers innocence demands wanting tomorrow to come before dawn
