Burned Out Matches
Burned Out Matches
Here I am
Trudging up a mountain
Littered with burned out matches,
Holding my hand high enough to keep the light on me
But out of the darkness
Words of determination run through my mind
Like a song you just can't get out of your head.
You can do it
You are strong
You will be okay
Here I am
Walking up a hill
Sprinkled with more
Burned
Out
Matches
I hold mine a little lower because frankly, I’m getting tired
My knees feel like jelly, but I keep on going
You can do it
You are strong
It will be okay
Here I am
Crossing a bridge
Covered in even more
Burned
Out
Matches
I hold mine by my side, not even trying to keep it out of the dark
Because, why bother?
I drag my feet along slowly
But I am still going
Maybe it’s meant to burn out
I am weak
I will never be okay…
Here I am
Blinded by perpetual darkness
By bosy is no longer warmed by the light
Because I am no longer carrying it
I never even crossed that bridge
Seeing, as in time…
I burned out
