Burlap and Satin

Kickin’ ass farm chores in floral print dress Lipstick is sticky and hair’s all a mess Binder twine blisters that tuck a loose tress Crankin’ old Allis but with mom’s finesse And these things that happened Like burlap and satin Fertile fields plowin’ and dust in excess Barley seeds planted with such fine caress Rakin’ up hay for the bales of success Dreamin’ up memories is such a bless. And these things that happened Like burlap and satin Askin’ for little and wanting some less Catholic girl says no to sometimes yes Maybe sought more than we dare to confess Born to be tender with some rough, I guess. And these things that happened Like burlap and satin

Hi Carrie...just wanted to give you an update on "Burlap and Satin". I submitted my lyrics to a company called Nashville Song Service and they are going to produce the song in a recording studio and hire a vocalist and musicians. They will then make a "demo" recording and will pitch the song in Nashville. Royalties are 50/50 split if it goes anywhere. I figure it can't hurt to try. Thank you for the encouragement. See? I do listen, lol. - Rhoda -

Thank you, Pat, for watching. I've since learned how to slow the slides down so you'll have to take a peak at my second attempt. Go to my poem "Sight of Lightning" on poetry soup. There is a link to my Facebook page. Let me know what you think. Thanks again, Dearheart.

Thank you so much, Paul. I've since made another video and if you go to my poem here "Sight of Lightning" (the one that reminds me of Bob Segers song) and click the link to my FB, you can see I've figured out how to slow down the slides. Let me know what you think. Your opinion is important to me.

Your talent does indeed rock some mighty fine poetry and this is one of those poems. It is excellently crafted, shines with the gloss of a muse's finesse and I absolutely love it. What be a hobby farm? Surely you didn't grow hobbys. I'm lost - hobby farm ignorant, but not poetry lost and this is a poem well worth the find. I've missed your busy self - say you're okay! Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Greed took its full effect in your life and mostly, it seems, in your Father's. I empathize and absolutely detest the reason for such senseless evasions on the good person's livelihood and dreams. Somethings are, and always will be, just plain wrong. Love ... CayCay

Well, CayCay...I'm kind of glad you asked about hobby farms. I guess technically, back in the day, my Dad's farm would have been considered a dairy and crop farm. We had milk cows and raised corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and sorghum. We sold milk commercially until the 70's when small farmers were required to install a bulk tank to replace the old electric coolers and milk cans. Dad always said it was to eliminate the "small guys" and it did. Today, his farm would be considered a hobby farm (not for profit, but as a hobby) as most commercial farms have to have hundreds of acres to earn a living wage. Thank you so much for your kind comments and friendship here on Soup. You are a blessing to me. Hugs returned tenfold.
