Buried Metafiction Rises
“Buried Metafiction Rises”
My tongue was bitten by an abrasive tutor marking her bitterness
On an unknown equation comparing the virtues of metafiction
A 2000-word examination, academically written
never would do it justice (em dash) Wilde against those of Rhys;
She was whoring her way into literature by tricks of a doctoral degree.
As if I could not write a dream back into existence,
the metafiction of me,
the door was closed on all my errors,
my apostrophes.
She favored the boys in class
who pandered to her imagination
She dreamed each night before she slipped into deep sleep
they solved her like allegories or abstract mathematics
hiding behind Euclidean geometry, and were drenched
in unresolved ancient literature and philosophy.
Just a pass. Not well written, all over the place, the remark.
Like a failure it stung like a bee.
My soul somersaulted backwards to that place
Where anything of significance was deemed of no importance
And less than a glorious victory
buried deep under a winning ceremony
I walked through mirrored halls of syruped history
and fell into a deep dark hole
where we all begin again eventually,
humbled in our own ignorance.
Little did she know
her trauma was less than mine...
But who was I to pull that glory of hers
out from under her unmarked feet
and her quaint puffer fish poetry,
her academic impostered superiority.
I read her life in pages
her unpunctuated verse and naff coquetry;
these lips that spoke her words read
her position poisoned from another life, another territory
whispering interpretations from another boiling mind
(that would be mine) - some new fantastic era of buried poetry (em dash)
like every poet overlooked and unclaimed territory
we see each in the other ... eventually.
that thought tickled me
buried nuances fresh and green (em dash)
like general relativity.
To right it all …
down, then up...
degrees are not at all necessary.
Rising
by words
arrives naturally.
Candide Diderot. '26
“An implication of Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity is that physical space itself is not Euclidean.”
“General relativity is Albert Einstein’s 1915 geometric theory of gravitation, defining gravity not as a force, but as the curvature of four-dimensional spacetime caused by mass and energy. It posits that massive objects (like stars and planets) warp spacetime, dictating the straight-path, geodesic motion of objects and light.”
“The Picture of Dorian Gray”, Oscar Wilde
“Wide Sargasso Sea”, Jean Rhys
