Broken We Lay

Come around and listen to a story Of the ones who battle so called life The scars carried may be a bit gory Not fully healed, some never will There's a woman who has three children Who loves them with all her heart But spoiled they become with her blessings So they bite the hand that feeds with fury But she doesn't budge, doesn't even cry She holds it all in for when the doors close Where she sheds a single tear in the mirror All the weakness that she can afford to show Married to a man who cannot show love But she stays for the children who hate her Such a twisted love, the binding of a mother To the ones that she bared of her own womb Broken we lay, broken we lay We forgive and forget for another day Broken we lay, broken we lay Our emotions don't match what we say There's a boy who wants to please his family Following in the failed dream of his father He tries to become the man he couldn't And kills himself trying to be someone who he isn't He puts on a mask and fakes a smile And goes through pain for goals he doesn't want All because he wants to please a father Who will never be satisfied with enough In the night, he cries himself to sleep Stares down stairs and wonders what the end would be No one to trust, no one to confide of what he feels So he fakes it till there's nothing but his ghost to see Broken we lay, broken we lay We forgive and forget for another day Broken we lay, broken we lay Our emotions don't match what we say There's a woman who just hit age twenty Living alone, disowned by her family She tries to make it on her own But falls into the depths of depression Every night, the nightmares taunt her soul In the day, the nightmares become the people around She wants love, but all that she gets is hate And so she takes it out on her porcelain arms She looks out a window and sees the ground Wonders if it'd hurt, if she'd even make a sound But she swallows a cup of pills and numbs the pain Thinking of her situation in complete disdain Broken we lay, broken we lay We forgive and forget for another day Broken we lay, broken we lay Our emotions don't match what we say
