Broken Pieces
since I was a young girl
my soul and spirit have whispered be a nurse
and in time the nurse in me did unfurl
it was a dream that I wanted to traverse
yes, I had to comply
and follow the rules and regulations and never ask- but why
and when patients died I came home to cry
but after many years in nursing I was sidelined
because this girl found out she was going blind
I was crushed and resigned
and with the broken fragmented pieces of my dream I swirl
in an ocean of sadness I immerse
my soul and sigh
and with my weary mangled spirit I whirl
and with my shattered life I twirl ...
until in meditation my heart, soul and spirit twined
and I found an acceptance and a serene state of mind
