Broken Hearts

How pitiful of me
To carry your heart
In my own
When I know it beats
A somber tone

How credulous of you
To speak to heavens
So lovingly about us
Urging for my return

As footsteps we heard
Walked past each other

And not a hint of love
Exchanged a look

Perhaps it's best
How clueless we are--
Unprepared to mend
Two broken hearts

Passing by one who has hurt you and seeing "not a hint of love" is so chilling, Vijay. Many have experienced this feeling and you describe it perfectly. It's so sad when broken hearts cannot be mended. Beautifully penned, my friend. Best wishes for happy holidays, Carolyn

Oh, this hits me hard, I felt each word as I have lived these words. How well you captured the intensely sad feel of quietly living together while each internally struggles with their own level of 'lost.' Excellent work, Vijay, that saddens me, just as it should. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Once a heart has been broken, pieces cannot be perfectly placed, making it whole again. However- in time, a heart will heal around the broken moments. It hurts sometimes, when you leave your heart open- and love is not received in return. Both are feeling lost it seems. Your thoughts hold many emotions. This is beautiful and tender. ~ Brandy
