Broken Bird

I see the horizon turn purple on your skin
As the sun sets slowly from our sight
And now our last song begins

The birds have flown from somewhere within
Parting in violet air with the advent of night
Our poem of silent voices quiver and transcend

While under the stars we flash smiles with garish chagrin
Holding hands across the table’s candlelight
As the fiddlers play sweet lavender violins

Breezes cool our temperate regard towards this end
To lighten our hearts demise in this paltry plight
Our denial of love seems such a soulless sin

Intently we form words but mouths never open
Our time has come to its end tonight
There is only silence above this amethyst din

We gaze into each other’s eyes like birds in tailspins
Fleeing and desperately tendering our broken light
While the dark purple hues consumes us as we sadly end

Sinking soundless and powerless
dismantled like wingless birds in flight

I really like this poem as full and light as a relationship can feel when it ends the emptiness can feel so dark and empty
