Broken

It did not seem quite so large way back then
Why, children break promises quite often
And politicians are filled with that sin
But this broken promise would not soften

For she was seventeen and fully grown
And she had promised to love me always
Then before long at all her love had flown -
I was left to ponder the bleak "somedays"

Then broken promise led to broken dreams
As those broken dreams caused a broken heart
That quietly broke a spirit it seems
And left a shell with no hope of restart

Ah, but that was long, long ago, my friend,
The spirit healed and I have loved again

Seems like finding love is fairly easy, Larry. The problem comes when one tries to hold on to it. It is ever elusive! I do love the positive ending:) Nice sonnet:)
