Broken

Bleak and tragic,
I sought an answer.
Never did one come,
I chased the wrong dream.

Night overtook me,
Blackened in each eye.
Defenseless I grasped at anything
Taught to pleasure in the pain.

Light seemed unreachable
Slipping away like a faceless name.
Breaking a helpless heart
That cried for comfort.

Deep and dark,
The bottom came quickly.
Hard and unforgiving
It hit like a freight train.

Drowning in fear
I yielded to dreary coldness.
Giving up my lucidity
To save my soul.

Stripped and bare,
I lay in gloom and disbelief.
Time slipping away
Like sand through a sieve.
