Bring Your Own Gift

The energy in the room
Brought joy all around
Gifts under the tree
No space to be found

Delicious food on the table
Kiddy table to the right
Paper products abound
No dishes to do, in sight

Everything's perfect
Family and friends begin to sing
Birthday wishes
For the new born king

Wrappings flying about
Children jumping with toys in hand
Parents hoping they listened
And purchased the right brand

Clean up happened quick
Not one person noticed my gift
Lapis Lazuli is rare
When misunderstood, brings a great rift

The trash welcomed the gem
With no one the wiser
I left, again and again
As an unwelcome miser

I no longer attend those affairs
Where my gift is not revered
Alone, and fully present
Better than a crowd of liars devoted to fear
