Bring me to the boil

In the name of good fun
you let me have none
every time you joke
the anger makes me choke
so you get your popcorn out
laugh at me when I shout
say you only have good intentions
that I never used to doubt

Bring me to the boil but I won’t simmer down
decorate me as your circus when you’re the top class clown
you lit the gas too quickly
soon after there will be smoke
and this time there’ll be no room
for you to disguise it as a joke
Bring me to the boil but you’ll find the dial doesn’t move
you chose the wrong person to illustrate your point to prove
there will be no return from this
and all of it will be thanks to you
you’ll have yourself cursing your poor judgement
you won’t know what to do

Everything I could say
about your eyes peering the other way
shall I divulge it all, or take it day by day?
because you bruise
with actions that you choose
I’ve tried to laugh it off
put myself in your shoes
but the act has expired and there’s a lot I can transpire
don’t make the mistake of choking on smoke after fire

Bring me to the boil I dare you to try
give it one more go and you won’t look me in the eye
you think you’ve seen my worst but that’s a taste at best
I will feel the weight just drop out of my chest
Bring me to the boil I know that’s what you love to do
you will finally hear the truth
about how everyone counts on you
Bring me to the boil and feel everything just break
it’s a well established fact you give more than you can take
