Notes About The Poem

Bridge the Yawning Gulf

Washington is broken; it couldn't be more divided. 

And who suffers because of this us-against-them tribalism?
          The American people. Real change is needed
        to fix Washington. If only members of Congress 
                    Find common ground and curb 
          The poisonous bickering and finger pointing.

       These complacent politicians seem to be experts 
                 At kicking the can down the road. 
       If only they cast aside their egos and go to work
   For the American people. Success in politics nowadays 
        Is only possible through the art of compromise.

         It's an absolute necessity as far as governing 
            Through legislative process is concerned.
     If only Democrats and Republicans work in tandem 
      To implement policies and past laws that will help 
      Lift struggling, low-income families out of poverty. 

           Real change is crucial. If only they do more 
                to make healthcare affordable to all.
               If only both political parties help pass 
          immigration reform and reduce gun violence,
                   hate crimes, and police brutality 

            America will be a much better, safer place.
                       It all could be, if and only if
                 The steadily widening yawning gulf 
                Between Democrats and Republicans 
                        In Washington is bridged.

Sotto Poet March 22, 2021 at 4:15 PM The systematic transformation occurs over time. Affordable healthcare would be much easier to get if they did anything to reduce premiums for everyone. Today's Congress has the incredibly tough option of being unable to collaborate on substantive border security. Panagiota Romios March 22, 2021 at 3:00 PM Congress is run at present by far left Democrats. They have majority of votes. Her agenda and theirs are shoving America down a radical toilet. I have seen how Republicans are treated like dog waste in Congress.. Just shove every bill down our throats. The gulf is too wide. Just look at the Pesident..can't hold a press conference, can't hold a State of the Union.he doesn't know who is President or where he is. Zero leadership,zero Congress.Punish Dr. Seuss? Republicans had control of Congress during the Trump era and they took advantage of the power they had. Biden taking office and Georgia going blue gave Democrats control of Congress, and they'll take full advantage of it as well. It is what it is, I guess.
