Breeze and Fireworks
Listen to poem:
Pure white clouds
Pure fresh breeze
Breeze pass the dogs hunting for a scare
Breeze pass the trees
Trees smell of pine
Trees weighed down with snow
Snow raining down
Snow pelting the roof
Roof standing firm
Roof keeps us warm
Warm as the fire glows
Warm as we slumber
Slumber the animals sleep outside
Slumber ends as dawn breaks
Breaks out the door the children do
Breaks out tumbling me and you
You look at me with a warm smile
You see through me with your dreamy eyes
Eyes flutter open wide
Eyes peer into the darkness
Darkness floods the room
Darkness fades as the light glows
Glows the room as light fades in
Glows my skin as it feels the sun
Sun comes up over the Caribbean sea
Sun peeps through the coconuts and bananas
Bananas are sweet and delicious
Bananas must be in my breakfast
Breakfast is stew chicken and yams
Breakfast the best time of day
Day is cooled by a Christmas breeze
Day spent with family
Family makes life brighter
Family makes the holiday sweeter
Sweeter is the food at this time
Sweeter you get year by year
Year is almost over
Year goes as it arrives
Arrives by bus does the rest of the family
Arrives with suitcase full of gifts
Gifts for friends
Gifts for strangers
Strangers gather in the town
Strangers dance to the reggae sound
Sound of laughter and good cheer
Sound of fireworks
Fireworks sparkle and shine like a dream
Fireworks shoot up off and on
Dream…
On…
