Breath

Breath. Breath long. Breath deep
Take time to acknowledge the breath
Understand the importance of our first
Resign to the inevitability of the last

Between those two points is life
Connected by a sequence of breaths
Exhale to expel all pain
All joy expressed on an inhale

In moments of beautiful agony
Awake the body torn in a scream
Settle the mind with control of breath
Feeling the inner peace radiate

When trying to battle with mind
Thoughts that tear us apart
It is only through empty lungs
Will we understand what is calm

Then if we are aware of anything
That small weighs more than large
The part of most insignificance
Should be revered as is all
