Notes About The Poem

Breast feeding a natural and healthy way of feeding a baby is often a social taboo in westernised worlds! In many parts of the world the mother breast feeds her child with a lullaby and the child kicks her feet in tune to her song and often falls asleep!

Breast Feeding

Lips feed in joy of her mum,
feet kick in glee to her hum,
My heart beat taps to her song,
Drop by drop rain on a drum!

this is SO COOL. I can't remember if my babies did the feet kicking thing or if I sang to them or not. it was SO long ago. But i nursed my daughter to nearly age 3 and loved it.(my son did not like it and went off at five months) i felt so rejected. He went straight to a little cup with a lid on it. I never once put a bottle in his mouth becaue I was so intent on only letting him nurse! Congrats on your win. Krish

Andrea Thanks! Growing up in India this was something very natural and being part of a large family, breast feeding was something mothers loved and were proud of. Prolactin, the hormone that is secreted in the process has been credited with Maternal bonding to the child. Also it is ready milk immediately available at the right temperature with the right nutrients. So something to be promoted in society.

beautiful image... breast feeding is natural but looked down upon...I breast fed but only at home, I pumped if I needed to go out anywhere... good write Krish!

Thank you Sandra. Indeed. Young mothers should be encouraged to breast feed to burst the myth of losing one’s figure and all that! Also helps maternal bonding through prolactin according to some.
