Brave

3am
Lying in bed reflecting of all I do not say or do
I promise myself from tomorrow I will be brave
I sleep and do not dream

In the morning I make coffee instead of tea
As the old grey deaf rescue cat
Worms around my legs for food
She reaches up claws the cupboard
Her plaintiff cries assault my ears
She is brave
I wish I could purr like she purrs
Cry openly with want
Smiling I reach for her biscuits
Bump my cup off the bench
Rolling my eyes
I watch as my milky brown sweet brave
Splatters, then creeps across the floor
Hurry to mop it up
Brave is never effortless
