Brave

Ive been holding my breath
keeping all the light from escaping my mouth
I need it here where it grows inside my ribs making my heart warm and protected from the world outside
Sometimes I want to give it all away
For you, I think I could
To stand on the roof , and release it in one big glorious scream
To watch it scatter ,brilliantly, these gleaming shards of me
To tell you all loudly how much I love you
Hoping it finds you where you need it most
But I dont
I never had this gift given to me, I made it myself
So sometimes I selfishly hide it because I'm afraid it would be lost on someone else
That it would shine on the face of those who can only turn away
So I close my eyes, and hold my breath thinking that on another day I'll be brave
