Notes About The Poem

I think we need an award for politicians, in Washington, who are not performing as expected by we the people. This award, the brass star, would tag them for what they are so we will use our votes for others who may give a damn..

Brass Star Award

Brass Star Award
By Franklin Price
06/10/2020

For gallant service to our country
Are the bronze and silver star
Given for above, beyond
And far above the bar

I'm hereby recommending
A new star, made out of brass,
Reserved for those in Washington
Above, beyond, the normal ass

Military not considered
For this medal, we won't toast
Must be ones we have elected
To some most prestigious post

The President can qualify
Also the House and Senate
The executive branch and congress
And anyone who's in it

Some things we must consider
When recommending this award
Most important, taking actions,
We the People can't afford

Following the party lines
When they make so little sense
Proposing laws of little purpose
Never straddling the fence

Not reaching out across the aisle,
No good, if not invented here
Drinking from a champagne glass
When they could have had a beer

Now that they're elected
And they're up there on their own
And don't listen to the people
Who have put them on the throne

If you think, they think, they're royalty
They will surely qualify
For Brass Star, with TP clusters,
As we vote their ass goodbye.
