Notes About The Poem

Brainwash

Brainwash

My pawns are carved from the ivories
ripped from flesh are the tusks
I need to have agency,
my moves I look forward
to in any direction
through hearts I may pierce
a game of thrones
when I win the board it's clear
wrists bloodied from the combatants
my treasured knights toss
their plated platinum gauntlets
not for the queen of queens
nor a worthless king
but for forcible indoctrination to induce
to give up basic political,
social, and religious beliefs
and attitudes and to accept
contrasting regimented ideas

You wisely chose the game of chess as the perfect arena and metaphor to express your firm resolve in confronting the turbulent issues of this volatile time. Loved it, Robert

There is more to discover about the chess game, a perfect arena for many metaphors in history, and to come. Thanx for your undivided attention to this one and the review!

Brainwashing refers to the process of making someone believe something by repeatedly telling them that it is true and preventing them from thinking clearly, we are the pawns Paige, and losing all we fought for, many died for...we must have a strong voice, yes? ;)

Anaya, I see you're on a chess roll of late. This use of power to force people to comply is quite a bet if that is what's at stake. As we know, it's a very serious game with stakes so high. I give you a lot of credit for heading in this direction. Smiles!!
