Boys

BOYS!

Unlike the boys that crossed the Somme
We will, we will, we will go on
We will go on to live a life
To raise a family, to love a wife
To feel the good, to feel the bad
To feel the happy, to feel the sad

We will go on to honour those
Who on that field spent their goes
Cashed in their chips and paid their debts
Thank you gentlemen, no more bets

And now one hundred years from go
Have we learnt to love our foe?
Have we moved from the killing fields?
To see what talking and loving yields
To see we will, we will, we will go on
To save the children that crossed the Somme

They will not grow old, as we have done
They will, they will, they will be young
Now move it forward one hundred years
Please count the poppies, now count the tears
Now multiply ten thousand times
Now multiply ten thousand more
Now multiply ten thousand times
Now my friend you’re near the score

But as we slip into the history book
Remember us, just take a look
The pages now have dried of tears
Have sanitised the loss by years
Don’t let us move on without a trace
We gave you a voice, now give us grace
The Pals are now gathered at heavens door
There is no point to any war
Brothers in arms of every race
.

Mighty are the warriors who fought evil and to protect freedom . . . who gave their life -- the ultimate sacrifice. Brave are the warriors who came home to live with the horror but also with the grace -- I like General Lee's quote: "What a cruel thing war is... to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors." Outstanding poem my friend.
