Bowl of Soup For a Stranger
Just another bowl of soup
a piece of buttered bread,
a seat at the table with background talk on cable,
family talk to cloud my head;
Mary's getting married and Mike is disabled,
Jackie has a new great-grandson
Johnny's taking pills but still depressed
family holds me prisoner for ransom
as I sip my soup and eat my sandwich,
thankfully,
I am just a guest.
