Bow to the King
Down memory lane I go.
Past the memories that helped me to grow.
Silent echoes flowing in my mind.
I landed on the one I hoped to find.
A memory left there to remind.
The desert heat pounding me down.
Heat waves dancing in which to drown.
Sitting there under a Joshua tree.
Nothing else could survive that I could see.
Over younder where the ground meets the sky.
There was a movement that caught my eye.
A mule, looking scarred and torn.
Body rugged and battle worn.
Head weary but held up high.
Was not bothered by that sun in the sky.
Walked on by.
With hardly a glance at me.
I respectfully bow my head to thee.
A true warrior in all its might.
Feared nothing in a fight.
And I understand.
You're the king of this land.
A beast without fear.
Walking by so near.
A protector, keeping predators away.
On our own .
Rebellion against all we've been shown.
Ready to fight.
Day or night.
An outlaw to your own kind.
Gives me peace of mind.
Knowing you're somewhere nearby.
Makes me feel safe when the sun leaves the sky.
Feel a kinship.
Both have felt the sting of a whip.
Lonely must feel the same.
Even if we are both to blame.
Brother you belong here more than I.
Hope you find shelter from that sun in the sky.
