Born To Woe

More and more now, discomfort has become my constant company. I do not like it! Then I think of others who are cursed with conditions far worse than mine. I imagine those born with genetic mental illness or sans limbs, and I think of incubator babies who might struggle on throughout their entire life with miseries. I ponder the helplessness of parents dealing with the constant care of sightless or autistic children and the horror of small children when faced with the knowledge that cancer grows inside their bodies or courses mercilessly through blood or bone. Across the world, refugee children weep from hunger. Oh, the many people born to woe while others live with mirth upon this earth. I wonder at the unfairness of it all! in the flower bed thirsting roses droop their heads . . . sun keeps beaming down

I keep coming back to this in my favourites, it never fails to have me think within my emotion. And you as a warm reactive human being. So many billionaires now-a-days, i'm not suggesting they throw money at the situations, but at least come up with systems to help the needy especially the children.

Congratulations my friend on your top win. You have "reflected" with deep compassion on so many issues facing so many. I do love your haiku!

A haibun of impact, Andrea, of that many of us can relate personally, in some way, form, or fashion. Your haiku brings it all in ... reflection, my compliments for your win, Aloha!

Reading this also reminded me of one of my family member’s kids. He has Cri-du-chat syndrome. A mental condition where he can’t speak, can’t eat (has a feeding tube through his stomach), and is overall very, very lightweight. Can’t imagine what that’s like .... but every time you see him you can’t help but feel joy. I don’t know why.

No shortage of suffering out in the world... a lot of pain (but a lot of joy too). Unequally spread amongst the masses. We hope the light can outweigh the darkness. We hope it will be worth it in the end. I think it’s healthy to reflect on these things, keeps us humble. You penned some interesting reflections on this haibun. The haiku at the end catches you off guard with its flower metaphor. The sun keeps beating down (but the coolness of night is just around the corner).

My peace I give you, but not the peace this world offers. Thus said Jesus. Is the world unfair? Of course it is. Those who have much do not share, those whose abuse their bodies must expect repercussions. Much to think on in your haibun.

I find it very sad when people do NOT abuse their bodies and yet they live with horrible physical or emotional trials which are genetic or come from the environment!
