BORN FREE

Born free, free of ego, free of hate.
Free of judgement about your mates.

No difference, no disparity.
Until teenage angst makes you aware.

Not alike after all, sexual stirrings that appall.
Must hide, not let on, Catholic church's biggest con.

Much confusion and disillusion.
No future free from care, just despair.

Makes me angry and appalled.
That we are blamed for how we're born.

For this Catholic church I'm full of scorn.

Thank you Jan. I'm chuffed! I always say "God knows I'm good!" when asked why I don't attend Mass.

Indeed! A fantastic poem Jean. You echo my sentiments perfectly. As a fellow Catholic, I applaud your powerful voice and your potent pen for calling out the shame-masters.. Brilliant! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Daddy took us all to mass before school even in winter Susan and sent me to a convent boarding school. It did me no good at all, I'm happy to say.

You said it my dear.... It is not Catholic Church problems, it's humanities...The only thing that we need more in this world ... is MORE LOVE...

Hi Maureen. I have many issues with the way us wee Catholics were brought up here in Ireland. It's wonderful to see the sea change.

Powerful verse Jean, sometimes I think the church is a bit behind the times. One thing people cannot help the way they are born. Society makes rules and expects everyone to follow the Rules' but it doesn't work out like that. Tom.

So true. It's a shame the church is responsible for so much shame Tom.
