Bookshop

Of bookshops I recall at least a few. They dwell inside my mind, for with my past they may have got torn down – those spots I knew back in my state. I doubt that they could last with competition from the internet. If they’ve survived, they’re relics now like me - those remnants clinging to the good old days! There was one shop that specifically I can remember, one I’d like to praise. Its books lined countless shelves – both new and old. Those books were so alluring. Plenty of my books I purchased there. Some are like gold and with me still – the treasured ones I love. That shop, like many things from years ago is gone! What treaures kids today don’t know! To me, a book store is the adult equivalent of a kid in a toy store. Wandering up and down the aisles, getting lost in the moment, with that sense of bliss and timelessness. Finding a great book and soaking it in for the next few days. Then pulling it out after a few years to reread it and enjoy those sensations all over again. Loved your sonnet and the sense of nostalgia it brings out.

Hello Andrea … sadly these are another casualty of so called progress. Our past is quickly disappearing due to the Internet - another fine sonnet Andrea - Lindsay

It's been ages since I went to a bookshop or library. I have a short story about the subject, but it is too long to post here.

Hi Andrea, I agree bookshops are becoming extinct. I enjoyed going to a book shop. I loved the various books to choose from, the smell, and the decor. I must admit that I haven't read a physical book( with the exception of the Soups Anthology ) in a very long time.I read Ebooks through kindle. But nothinig holds a candle to purchasing a book from a bookshop. Excellent job. It looks like a winner to me. Best wishes in the contest.Have ga great day, my friend:-) Alexis

I agree...with everything in internet now, today's children do not know what it is to read from a book, (that particular smell.. of books)... they are treasures.. Best wishes in the contest Andrea... Hugs.. ~ Ani

Barnes and Noble seems to be the only chain with actual book stores in Florida. I was in the one in Coral Gables a few months ago and was surprised at how many people were there looking to make purchases. I do miss the magic of the old bookstore, like the one you enjoyed so much. Best wishes if for the contest! Hugs, carolyn

Hello Andrea, Right! kids don't know what a treasure a book store is. I love to be in a book store reading the back of a book i may take. Poetry, or a mystery, or other. Hugs Darlene

I also have books that have been with me for decades. " Some are like gold and with me still " I cannot bear to part with them Nice reminder it may be time to look them up.

It's nice to have those very special books. I threw a lot of my paperbacks out. I just had too many in my house!

Sadly disappearing now Andrea, the Internet made sure of that, nothing like the smell of a book though as opposed to a screen. Tom

Wonderful write, Andrea. I think all of us must have had a bookshop when we were kids, but alas, those days are gone. They are gone forever now. Sad!
