Book Bug

Lay down
For five minutes
To read a chapter
Okay, maybe two.
You tell Dad
"I'll do the dishes after this chapter."
and he smiles and shakes his head
He knows you'll get lost
You lay down, for just five minutes
At 6:30 after dinner.
At 6:35 you are still reading.
Soon it is 8:00.
You are still reading.
Then comes the moment
when you look up,
Only to find it is 10:36 at night,
and you have yet to do the chore.
Just as Dad predicted.
