Bogeyman

Bogeyman, Bogeyman you come again
My night of hope screams for crumbs to eat,
I’m just a boy needing a few coins
Offering old tin cup to rich men on the lane.
Cold my body wrapped like soiled paper, trash
Echoing my plea for mercy or grace
Yet, I’m bypassed like a rag, a nameless tag.

While you laugh at my dingy fate, mocking
A young life’s poverty… I bellow of angst
Instead of helping me learn in school,
Your trace of arrogance maims my bones,

Do you know how hard it is to sleep in the rain?

Bogeyman. Bogeyman… one day, you just might
Take my place, and hear not the echo
Of kindness reverberating from heaven's call.

Nette, you make a very good point regarding an aspect of the civilization I and many others live in. Empathy is a hard thing to come by for those who never learned what's important in life. Smiles!!

Dear Nette, I just finished reading your powerful poem, and it left an impact on me. The raw emotion you express in addressing the "pharisee" is both haunting and disturbing. I liked the way you contrast arrogance with the desire for kindness is beautifully crafted. Oh, the importance of empathy and understanding in our lives. Spring, Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Powerful, sad write Nette…..with a solid meaningful message. Life is not fair and mankind is not always kind or compassionate! Great poem….Debx
