BLUE SHIRT GOODBYE
[Verse 1]
I was half a man in a boy’s disguise,
Tried to speak truth, but it came out lies.
Didn’t know how to break what I couldn’t define—
So I blew us up like I’d lost my mind.
You were books I hadn’t read yet,
Said lines I loved but never met.
You danced in the rain, without regret,
I stood in it, awkward, getting wet.
[Chorus]
But I still remember, I still feel that night—
Lemon ice melting, your laugh too light.
The songs you loved, the hush of tide—
And the way you looked when you said, “We tried.”
There was care tucked in that blue shirt goodbye—
A love too quiet, and too shy to survive.
[Verse 2]
You gave me poetry, I gave you mess—
A rusted compass, no map, just guess.
You wore your hurt like stained-glass light,
Turned our ashes to something bright.
But perfect lines I couldn’t unpack,
Still hear your ache in old songs I track .
[Bridge]
But that’s not all I recall—I remember:
The porch light low, summer heat in the air,
Bare feet on wood, your hand in my hair.
The nights we were reckless, shadows held tight,
Under streetlamp halos, we both took flight.
[Chorus]
Yeah, I still remember, still feel your sigh—
The way your eyes closed when I said goodbye.
I kept the quiet, the songs you played,
And a warmth that lingers in the hurt we made.
There was truth in that blue shirt goodbye—
Something ending, something alive.
[Outro]
And as time moves on, and the seasons shift,
We’re just stories now, drifting in what-if.
The memories stayed, I don't ask why—
Forever stitched deep in that blue shirt goodbye.
