Blue Dress

Little sister of mine oh why do you cry?
I've been asked to dance and I've nothing to wear
I am sixteen and my life is passing by
Oh, Little Sister, haven't we all been there

Ah, but I have a dress of the palest blue
I' m sure it will fit and it's made to dance
With your golden hair it is perfect for you
What better way to begin a new romance

That was long ago - big sister died today
Now I am a grandma because of a blue dress
That she gave me to wear in a casual way
I remember that night that she said "God Bless"

And so He did with a husband without peer
Five children who have families of their own
So many grandchildren that I hold so dear
And the magic blue dress given once on loan
