Blow out the candle

He starts to feel grateful for all that he has
when he sees you play dead on the floor
you seemed so sincere, so he walked you here
then he saw what he hadn’t before

Another lie told, it’s just turning him cold
another shot fired and now he’s just tired
wondering what does he do this for?

With him you would joke, through attitude and smoke and he claimed it was harmless fun

So why did you break all his trust, tell his mates
then question why it was done?

That night he was ready, he’d decided to take a risk that very soon turned,

into a promise so empty, so lazy, ungently
that left him reeling and insane
lit candle, you blew it and pretended to have no shame

The next day, you texted
he didn’t expect it but really there was no surprise,
that all that you wanted, hungry and desperate
a portion of the newfound prize.

The clock moved forward, he decided to toss it aside
people aren’t perfect but they can still be worth it
you’d make him look up at the sky

Again, you did it, masked up as good willing like you were really on his side
then the masked slipped, a real funny trick
leaving him to decide

So the next time it comes in the post,
called out for being a ghost
don’t come to him with disdain
His kindness has dried up, his humour so tried now

He’s moved to the other lane.
