Blind Sight

Blind Sight -Meghan C. Hutchings
Have you really looked at me, Beyond my skin so pale? Do you know my deepest thoughts, The secrets that I veil? Have you really looked at her, Beyond her skin, light brown? Do you know her hopes and dreams, The pain behind her frown? Have you really looked at him, Beyond his skin, so dark? Do you know his goals and fears, Or how he’ll leave his mark? Have you really seen yourself, Beyond your outer hue? Beneath the surface, find your truth. Expose the real you...

An excellent piece of writing, Meghan. You explore two tendencies of humanity: to be content staying at the superficial level with one another, and to make judgments based upon skin color (it's great how you made the 2nd line of each stanza a different tone, emphasizing the humanity and dignity of every human, regardless of their skin). I love how you provoke thought and draw the reader in by starting each stanza with a question. Also, how you signify the deeper waters within each of us: thoughts, secrets, hopes, dreams, pain, goals, fears... it's a two-edged sword - we avoid digging deep to really get to know someone, but we also get resistant when somebody tries to get to know US. I am a fan of how you craft your poetry and carefully select your rhymes and stay consistent with your cadence, making your words not only deep and meaningful, but smoothly flowing and enjoyable to read. Going in my faves... you have a gift and you ARE a gift. God bless you, and please keep writing ~ John

Well Meghan, I hope you know it would be my honor to be your reviewer, advocate, blurb writer or whatever might help more people be exposed to your poetic voice. I do know I would love to have and read any of your published works!

John, I want to unofficially pre-hire you to write all reviews for my books once I have them ready to publish! LOL! The time & effort you spend delicately untangling each verse & beautifully portraying my messages in ways that almost feel you were in my mind as I wrote is simply fascinating! My dream to publish my own works has yet to occur; I've been published in others' works, but when my children's book, poetry compilation, & humorous blog book are ready, I would be honored to have you review them all! God bless and much love! Thank you for calling me a "gift"! Meghan

Truly, a fine posting that invites thought + reflection from the reader. Too often we simply judge impulsively on outer features. A true flaw. Blind (or limiting) sight is an epidemic in itself. Congratulations on your well penned submissions! Be well. Brian

Thank you so very much, Brian! I know it's short, but my hope was for the strength of the message to provoke thought, just as you noted. It touches my heart that my message came through. 'Limited' sight, as you so profoundly put it, is an epidemic in itself, and through writing and teaching, I strive to serve the Lord and help in any way to eradicate these tragedies. God Bless!

A truly fantabulous piece of poetic genius...with lots of didactic carats, too - true beauty lies not upon the externals but elusively sits beneath the facades. Kudos!

Hannington, thank you so much for your beautiful review of my work! I'm not sure anyone has ever called one of my poems a "piece of poetic genius". I can assure you that truly means the world to me. I love your style of writing, as well! I often write about inequality and injustice, so I hope you enjoyed "Teardrop" and "Judge Not, Lest You be Judged". Thanks, love, and blessings!

Thank you very much! I teach, so I always want to remind fellow teachers and students to remember not to race to judgment. I have zero tolerance for bullying, unequal treatment, and any kind of racism or injustice. Thank you for your kind comment!

Thank you very much! That means a lot to me. I think this subject area comes easily to me because I'm so passionate about equality and anti-bullying. I love your work, as well!
