Blades and Ice

Gliding like an eagle, the rush of clean air, wonder of wonders on two knife blades, cheeks frosted with glee, breath iced and cold, hands loosening but not letting go, around the oval like a race car just practicing laps, getting the feel, gaining confidence, bright smile showing grace and skill, faster and out of breath, gulping frozen air, slowing the pace to finish, silver blades blurring, heart pulsing, a smile that catches the moment... a girl on ice.

ahhh, this really captures a good skate, and I like how you ended it as a girl on ice. I used to do this as a young girl behind our house in the woods. What memories. Now when I skate, I just feel it in my hip. DANG
