Black Scarf

It's been 30 years. Wearing you since childhood, we tasted many snowflakes, saw many New Year ball drops, and made countless snow angels. You always dance when the wind blows. You're a shadow wrapped around my neck as you have always been with me. Our favorite activity was to climb up a hill on wintery nights sitting on a rock and looking at the city from above as if they're northern lights on the ground. Watching every candle blown out down there we return home from the darkness and sleep to prepare for another adventure.

Vermillion, I just came to say thanks for my win in your contest, which really made my day (you would not believe all the misfortune my husband is currently having, so I sure enjoyed the pleasant surprise of your winner list). anyway, the title of this poem was interesting to me, and as I read it, I thought wow, this is one of your best poems. I just love how you made the scarf like a personal companion here. FAVE
