Notes About The Poem

Inspired by the kind comments of Gershon Wolf

Black Rose

Because I am a rose you expect me to be red
But I am black hope there’s much to be said

My petals not yellow but thick onyx braids
Inspiring the fellows who want to get laid

But I’m no mattress nor am I for sale
Comfy in my blackness no need to yell

Stigma and enigma due to my pride
Misunderstood figure refusing slight

My feet are planted in brown dirt
Inspiring romantic despite my hurts

Cut me deep and I bleed cranberries
DNA unique magical like cocoa faeries

Optimistic singing James Brown so loud
Who can resist I’m black and I’m proud

When Joe Louis died, a famous white sports writer (can't remember his name...my pardons to the chap) wrote an article about the great champion (and in my humble opinion...the greatest fighter of all time) he wrote: "Joe Louis...a credit to his race...the Human Race." Keep on writing, Karen. Its the only way. :) john

You should be proud of who you are Karen, sadly there are many among us who think they're above us because of our colour or religion. We should all respect each other regardless of what colour we are or what religion we follow. Hope your new year is off to a good start. Tom

I appreciate your reading and agree we should be more tolerant of each other!
